For over 35, years, Sheriff Greg Munks worked at the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in Redwood City, California. As a law enforcement officer, Gregory Munks had to pass a physical fitness test required for every officer in the country.

The physical fitness test for law enforcement goes by several different names and can vary throughout states and counties. Candidates will test on four areas. The two types of running included in every test are the 75-yard dash and a 1.5-mile run. The dash is meant to simulate pursuing a suspect on foot, while the run is an assessment of aerobic abilities.

Potential law enforcement officers must also perform pushups and situps during the test. While the passing numbers differ depending on where the test is done, they must accomplish a minimum of 18 pushups and 21 situps to pass and go to the next round.
